        The 1s in Laszlo's name that Barna wrote stand for the diacritics
over the preceding vowels, and are not to be confused with the order in
which our "good king" Wenceslaus is reckoned (which at one point was

Well, the foreign kings with the Wladislav name are known in Hungarian
history as Ulaszlo.  Was this one of them?

1. I did not write that he was crowned "Laszlo I.", I wrote "La1szlo1",
which in cyberneese means "La'szlo'". Until now I assumed that the least
confusing way to transmit information about diacritics is to put numbers after
the characters involved. A <1> after the letter <a> and <o> in Laszlo means
that in Hungarian you suppose to put an acute accent on these characters.
See the "Hungarian FAQ" as a reference to this convention.

2. I am not sure, that I should reveal my reference, it will shock you.
But if you insist I tell you. Please sit down:

I know this is not, the most authoritative historical reference, but I am

with Hungarian folk music and folklore?  If it is available only in
Hungarian, that's good, too because I speak it at the native level.

The weather changes rapidly around this time.  I haven't lived in BP for
the past eleven years, but I can guarantee you that over a period of one
week, you can see many changes.  So, my advice is that you take warm clothes
, an umbrella, and some light clothes just in case it does get nice.  Good
advice is also available from the Hungarian embassy.  you can call them up.

There was an article in the New York Times (March 19) on Slovakia and I found
the following aside in it:

"What's going on here is nothing like what's going on in some other parts of
Central and Eastern Europe,'' a foreign diplomat said. "Meciar is a very
skillful populist politician and a bit of an opportunist, but the `former
Communist' stuff is vastly overplayed. It fits in Poland, maybe in Hungary
and certainly in the Balkans, but here there's a very different dynamic."

So, this is how a foreign diplomat sees Hungary! Rather sad!

I recall some relevant press reports from the time of German reunification.

The Bundeswehr got to play with all the military toys inherited from the
DDR, and its pilots were very much impressed by the performance and
manoeuvrability of the MIG 29.  I think we can accept their word for it,
as they would have a good basis for comparisons.

I, too, would be interested in such a list. I don't think there is
one(at least in english). The usernet folk-dancing.rec sometimes deals
with Hungarian folk dancing and recently listed dance camps this summer
in Transylvania
