Having just signed up for this e-mail thingy, I decided to join a few
news-groups that covered areas of interest to me. Being a fairly regular
visitor to Hungary this news-group was a must.

However, after 3 weeks on the system and no messages, I am forced to ask

1. Is there any news? - or does the whole country feel that there is
nothing worth communicating.

2. Is there any group? - Am I the only person outside Hungary who feels
that this list is worth subscribing to, or has the system gone down
through over use?

I also found it extremely difficult to send a receive money in Hungary.
Once, I had a cashier's check which I was only able to cash at the
University's Agrobank, but most banks said it would take 6 weeks to clear
that.  I successfully had money wired to me in Budapest, but not in
Debrecen.  We used Western Union, which is expensive, but fast.  However,
I still had great difficulty explaining what I was after.  The first
teller with whom I spoke said that he had never heard of Western Union
nor anythink like a wire transfer.  I insisted that he take further steps
to find my money (I think he would have been content to just drop it
altogether!), and ended up having to walk to another bank one mile away
to get it, even though I was originally at the very branch that Western
Union sent me to.  Good luck!  This is quite difficult.   -Jennifer
