Astor Place & Broadway, the place is called (imaginatively): Astor Place. It's
in the basement, dozens of hairdressers, famous, funky place. You can walk
around before you pick your hairdresser. Cost: about $10 plus tip.
If you want even cheaper, go to Third Avenue somewhere btw 8th & 11th Sts a
barber shop for students still in beauty school. They work under supervision,
and it's dirt cheap.
Don't go to Chinatown, although the haircut is cheapest there in Manhattan.
Years ago, due to language barrier, I got completely shaved in January. No
kidding.
Good luck!
